The translucent zebrafish larvae (4.5 days post fertilization) allows us to visualize a vertebrate wound inflammatory response using confocal microscopy. Here one stack is taken every two minutes, imaged from 5 mins after laser injury to the 4th somite from the left. Macrophages are fluorescently tagged red Tg(mpeg1:Cherry), and neutrophils green Tg(mpx:GFP). A small number of tissue resident macrophages are the first arrivers before a rapid influx of neutrophils and then a second wave of macrophages.
