Tom Sawyer island is the only part of Disney land that Walt Disney designed personally. Imagineer Marvin Davis was having a hard time coming up with the right shape for the island, so Walt Disney took the project home and worked on it in his barn behind his Hombly Hills house. The next morning, he brought it in to Marvin Davis, put it on his desk, and said “Now, that’s the way it should be.” And that very shape that Walt drew is what became Tom Sawyer Island.
