See a step by step demo on trace monotypes, an easy and fast printmaking technique that creates an amazing range of textures and marks. First a thin layer of printmaking ink (water mixable oils, oils, or acrylic mixed with slow-dri medium work too) is rolled onto a sheet of plexiglass. Next a sheet of paper is placed on top of the plexiglass that has ink on it, and then you can draw with a pen, pencil, any tool that will make a mark. Pull up the paper and you will see your trace monotype on the other side of the paper! Demo by Art Prof Clara Lieu.

Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more.
