UPDATE - Detailed Spreadsheet DROPBOX link at he bottom of this description.
We are now 15 weeks in and the DIY Loft Conversion is at the point that we know pretty well how much it will cost, how long it will take and the whole process.
Covid 19 has certainly played a part and will extend the project by about 6 weeks but has cost no more money. I take you through how we did it, how long things take and, in detail, the big costs.
Listen and watch how I explain how I have saved £50,000 - yes FIFTY GRAND ! That's in 6 months - not a bad TAX FREE rate of pay!
I break down The Loft Conversion Costs for you. Legal/Professional fees, Timber, Insulation, Stairs, Dorma, Electrics, Plumbing and decoration. Ill supported by my trusty spreadsheet which I used to do the Loft Conversion Planning.
DIY Loft Conversions are certainly a lot cheaper than paying someone, but exactly how much can you save if you do a loft conversion yourself. The simple answer is about 1/4rd. Yes you save 66% of the cost of doing a loft conversion if you do the labour. This brings my costs, which included an en-suite, from about £2100 per square meter down to about £700 per square meter.
Be warned through. I was at home 100% of the time with kids at school so I could work 8:30am till 4pm. This means 6 months is a fair estimate for how long I need. If this was to be done in holidays, weekend and evenings you are looking at about 3 to 4 times longer -yes it would take a couoke of years!
And before you ask, no I am NOT a professional builder and NO I have never done this before, though I am a pretty handy DIY'er.
If you ask I will send you my spreadsheet......I'm not sure how to add it in here.....
Here is a DROPBOX Link...I hope it works....seems to....
