America has put out a global travel warning indicating Iran may be planning terror attacks against diplomats around the world including in the United States.
It comes after it emerged that two Iranian men were plotting to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to Washington by blowing up a restaurant in the city.
The pair have been charged with conspiracy to murder, planning to use a weapon of mass destruction and commit international terrorism.
One was arrested last month, the other is believed to be in Iran.
The White House said the men wanted to destroy the Saudi Embassy and blow up Israel's too.
Issuing a statement today, it said that the plot may signal a "more aggressive focus" by Iran to attack diplomats which could "include possible attacks in the United States."
The US is also discussing with Saudi Arabia and other allies the possibility of taking up the matter with the United Nations Security Council, a Western diplomat said.
