BoatUS Magazine associate editor Mark Corke teaches you step-by-step how to splice rope around a thimble. The thimble splice is handy for connecting a 3 strand rope to anchor chain on your boat. Mark breaks down the process into a simple format that uses 3 strand nylon line, electrical tape, waxed whipping twine, scissors, and a marlin spike or fid (if needed). He walks you through the process of adding whipping twine, preparing the end, and weaving the ends of the rope through the line to secure it. Once you know how to add an eye splice with thimble, you'll also be able to do other splices using three-strand line.
