Reverend Guitars Greg Koch Gristle 90, accessing the third Fishman Fluence voice update: SUCCESS!!
I dug around online and found out you can order 25kOhm push/pull pots right from Fishman, that are made to work with their active pickups. I was able to replace the original volume pot so that now I can access the previously-unavailable 3rd “jangly single coil” voicing by pulling up on that pot.
So this is now the only guitar that I know of that can actually select from FOUR different voices out of the Fluence P90s
1) vintage underwound P90 (pots/toggle button at baseline)
2) overwound P90 (toggle switch on)
3) jangly single coil (volume pot pulled up)
4) out of phase middle (tone put pulled up)
So it is indeed possible, but the rewiring isn’t for the faint of heart. You have to add four more wires to the new pot that stretch to the two pickups for the activation signal and ground on each, then you have to add three new wires to take the new legs of the pot back to the integrated circuit board since the new pot is smaller and won’t match up due to the control plate dimensions, then one more wire to ground the new pot to the common ground on the circuit board.
But it can be done! I’m very happy to have all the tonal possibilities now at my fingertips. Still not sure why the guitar wasn’t built this way from the beginning, but Greg Koch is a man of mystery, if not also a man of reason! 🙂
Let me know if any questions, it really does make sense to get that third option on board as it does add even more flexibility.
