Magnetic levitation or maglev is a method is a method by which an object is suspended in air with the support of magnetic field.
This video presents how a pencil can be easily levitated and forces acting behind it.
The materials needed are:
Styrofoam base
10 Ring magnets
A pencil
A popsicle
The approx size of ring magnet is 0.7 inch outer diameter, 0.3 inch inner diameter and 0.12 inch thickness.
The lifting force is provided due to repulsion between the back magnets which opposes the gravity .
The stability of the pencil is due to attraction between front magnets and contact force at the tip of pencil.
