Nuyorican Soul is one of the many projects recorded by the house-garage production and remix team of "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, who are also known as the duo Masters At Work. This awesome track is a remake of "Run Away," a 1977 song by the Salsoul Orchestra featuring Loleatta Holloway; this new version combines the two words of the title into a single term, and features lead vocals by India. The first time I saw the music video of this song on MTV, I loved it immediately, and then saw a fantastic live performance by India on "The Grind," which further convinced me to buy the single. Runaway went all the way to #1 on the USA Dance charts in 1997, and also peaked at #24 on the UK pop charts--I'm just wondering why didn't it cross over to the Hot 100, as it deserved to be a big hit.
