Presentation abstract: Paenibacterin is a recently discovered broad spectrum cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic produced by Paenibacillus thiaminolyticus. Paenibacterin contains no intrinsic fluorophore, which complicates the study of its interactions with bacterial membranes. A coumarin-containing fluorescent probe derived from paenibacterin has been developed. This probe will be used to identify cell components targeted by paenibacterin and to examine its mechanism of action in greater detail.
