From our archive: During a day filming inside Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, our crew was in the prison yard filming when a "Signal 10" was issued throughout the facility. A Signal 10 meant an emergency was in effect somewhere in the prison and officers were called to immediately run to the situation.
As our cameras ran alongside the officers to the cell unit where the emergency was confined, we followed the officers inside where we saw teenager Jacob under duress inside a time out cell. Jacob was pacing inside the cell and pulling his hair, angry and upset that a unit officer had earlier told him to go back into his room. An argument ensued, and Jacob was put in the time out cell which caused him to become even more upset.
Staff at the prison knew Jacob well. He had a tendency to lash out when he felt things were unfair inside the prison. In this video, viewers get an unprecedented look at how officers handled the tense situation, what Jacob told our cameras as we followed him to the nurses station to be checked out following the meltdown in his time out cell, and what things really look like inside a maximum-security juvenile prison when emergency situations arise.
Update: We have been unable to find any updated information on how Jacob has done following his release from prison.
