Steps:
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Hold down 0.0 (Trip) button
3. 'Time' will show (on MFD screen beside speedo) - keep holding down the button until you see "Battery".
4. Release Trip (0.0) button when 'Battery' will come up.
5. You will now see SOC (status of charge) - battery level indicator.
Note:
(1) I'm not sure as accurate measurement of battery condition it is (I assume it is probably not that accurate in all fairness) - nevertheless it's worth being aware that option does exist.
(2) I'm not entirely sure if it works for other VW vehicles (I assume it does, provided SOC is activated).
*** VCDS GUIDELINES ***
I found online the following instructions to enable SOC in your car using VCDS:
1. Go to Instrument control module (address hex17).
2. Choose 'adaptation -10'.
3. Select "Battery charge" from channel list and change setting to 'active'.
