This is just a bit of brush language, rooted in the masters...my heroes in this specific area are Kenny Clarke, Philly Joe Jones, Max Roach, Billy Higgins, Chico Hamilton, Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Arthur Taylor, Vernel Fournier, Louis Hayes, and the titan...Jo Jones (forget about it!). Over the years I have tried to assimilate my favorite influences with the hope of attaining my own sound. It's important to study the greats and emulate but not get too hung up in replication. Listen, analyze, emulate, then re-create by adapting and personalizing those influences.
