A Hyderabad-based company manufacturing mills and drills is making machine guns for the Indian army. The weapons they have made are cheaper than imported options, durable, have aced some of the toughest tests and are completely Made-in-India. ASMI, short for Asmita, was designed and developed in 2020 by the Armament Research and Development Establishment and is manufactured by Lokesh Machines in Hyderabad. Colonel Prasad Bansod of the Indian Army, designed it and with inputs from the Army. ASMI is a 9x19 mm calibre submachine gun that has been inducted into the Indian Army.
