One of the first decisions Arabic language learners are faced with is choosing which type of Arabic to learn. Often, students and people who want to learn Arabic ask me: "should I learn Modern Standard Arabic (MSA/FusHa/formal Arabic) or a Spoken Arabic Dialect?". The answer to this question is not always straightforward as there are several elements that need to be taken into consideration before taking a plunge into the world of Arabic language. While MSA is the common language between all Arabic speaking countries, it is not the language people use on a day to day basis. On the other hand, Arabic dialects do not have a standard written form, despite being the main means of communication in the Arab world.
In this video, I discuss the differences between MSA and dialects and give you suggestions that help you make the most convenient choice to you.
So, what will you choose? MSA or a dialect? :) Let me know in the comment box below!
