About 98,000 Russians
have crossed into Kazakhstan
in the week since their President Putin
announced a partial mobilization
for military reservists
Men seeking to avoid
the call-up continued to flee
into neighboring countries,
with Kazakhstan and Georgia,
both part of ex-Soviet Union,
appeared to be the most popular
destinations for those crossing
by car, bicycle or on foot
Putin last Wednesday ordered
Russia’s first military mobilization
since World War Two,
accusing the US-led West of
trying to “weaken, divide
and destroy” Russia
Some 300,000 reservists
are expected to be drafted
into Russian troops
