Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem is an isometric ARPG Hack & Slash made in Cryengine that fully released back in 2020 after spending a few years in early access and initially being funded on kickstarter.
I initially tried Wolcen back in 2018 and whilst the game didn’t blow me away at the time it’s certainly gone through a lot of changes and had many updates since the full release,
WOLCEN has quite a big focus on story telling with tonnes of fully voice acted cut scenes throughout the entire game, there’s a full transmog system where you can customize your appearance and dye different components of your gear, you’ve got the typical giant ARPG skill tree with tonnes of customization options and in terms of gameplay Wolcen’s combat has more animation locks compared to other ARPGs.
One unique feature of combat in Wolcen however is the Aspects of the apocalypse system, which allows players to transform temporarily into an celestial entity with its own unique abilities to deal big damage.
Additionally Wolcen doesn’t have classes, you can use any weapon and build your character in any way you want, wanna be a greatsword wielding mage? You can do that if you want.
As of making this video WOLCEN is sitting at Mixed Reviews on steam with 56% positive overall, In this video we’ll try to find out why, is the game actually dogshit? Or could it be a good alternative to Last Epoch, Path Of Exile or Diablo 4?
What do you think about Wolcen in 2023? do you think this game will ever be as good as Last Epoch, Path Of Exile or Diablo 4 or have you lost hope? what would you review WOLCEN in a score out of 10? let me know in the comments below!
