Recent Advances in Surgery for Lymphedema - JP Hong, MD
Dr. Joon Pio Hong is a Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ulsan College of Medicine and Asan Medical Center. He has board certification in Trauma, Hand, and Plastic Surgery. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and St. Paul University Ethiopia. He received his BS, MD, and PhD degrees from Yonsei University. He also received his MBA in Medical Management from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business.
Dr. Hong is an active member of several professional associations, such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He currently serves as President of the Korean Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and President-Elect of the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery.
His major work includes research and clinical practice in wound healing, diabetic foot and lower extremity reconstruction, lymphedema, and supermicrosurgery. He has performed more than 4500 microsurgery procedures, including 800 cases of lymphedema. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Archives of Plastic Surgery. He serves on the editorial board for numerous journals, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, International Wound Journal, Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, and more. He has been invited to over 80 countries to present his work and has traveled as a visiting professor for more than 100 institutions. Dr. Hong has over 270 publications and 28 book chapters.
Dr. Hong was awarded the Godina Traveling Fellowship from the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Alfred W. Farmer Lectureship from the Canadian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Acta Scandinavia Lectureship from the Scandinavian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Maliniac Lectureship from the American Society of Plastic Surgery, and the James Barrett Brown Award from the AAPS.
