STORYLINE
INDONESIAN DESIGNERS SHOWCASE MUSLIM DESIGNS
Indonesian designers showcased their latest creations for muslim attire on Friday (15 FEB 2013) at Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW), one of the countries biggest fashion events of the year.
IFW is divided into four themes; evening wear, muslim wear, men's wear and casual wear.
Friday's fashion shows highlighted the evolution of muslim wear in Indonesia, from conventional simple one-piece's to more cutting edge designs.
In recent years more Indonesian women have donned the hijab, not only for religious reasons but also as part of a fashion trend.
The domestic muslim fashion industry has grown significantly as a result, with new designers specializing in the line.
The colors, patterns and styles of hijabs have become more unusual and stylish, and designers believe these new, fresher styles of hijab will encourage more women to wear them.
Indonesia Fashion Week brings together hundreds of local brands and designers in Jakarta.
The event, which opened on Thursday is aimed at maximizing the talent of local designers in order to increase their contribution to the country's creative industry.
