This public AIMS-2-TRIALS webinar is hosted by Dr Andreina Mendez and Autism Representatives Pierre Violland and Roderik Plas.
Care pathways enhance quality of care by promoting people's safety, increasing their satisfaction, and optimising the use of resources, but how can we improve access to care for autistic people?
In our talk we will give an overview of our European autism care pathway analysis that was conducted through the European Brain Council Value of Treatment Study. Using caregiver reports (via survey) we were able to identify service disparities preventing autistic people from receiving information, support, timely screening/diagnosis and personalised support. We also were able to identify access barriers for autistic individuals with autism and associated epilepsy in receiving appropriate screening and treatment of epilepsy.
With our suggestions for improvement, this care pathway analysis can help streamline policies across Europe, with a view to improving screening/diagnosis process waiting times, access to personalised support, as well as the screening and early management of epilepsy. This would improve quality of life for autistic people and their families.
