5 tips to sound more French when speaking French. If you're a French learner who's trying to figure out how to sound like a native French speaker, I've got some good news: there ARE ways to sound more natural in French.
But before we get into it, there's something I feel compelled to address first: foreign accents.
Often when we think of how to sound more like a native French speaker, or how to improve French speaking, it's easy to want to "fix" our accents and hide the fact that French is NOT our native language. And while there's nothing wrong with trying to minimize your accent (especially if it impedes comprehension), I want to stress that accents are NORMAL.
Take me for example. I've been learning French for 15 years, speaking it for 8, and teaching it for 3. And despite my ability to use subjunctive at the drop of a hat, I still have an accent when speaking. I will likely have an accent for the rest of my French-speaking life. And there's nothing wrong with that!
Of course, it's important to learn how to make French sounds, but at the end of the day, the goal is comprehension rather than perfection. And besides, trying to sound more like a native French speaker isn't JUST about the accent.
So while I do go over certain pronunciation tips in this video, I also talk about the omission of certain words, the shortening of others, etc., in an effort to help you sound more natural in French.
As always, thank you for your support, and don't forget to like and subscribe! Okay, let's bla bla about 5 ways to sound more French. C'est parti !
