Let’s say you have a raster layer for something like terrain. And then you also have a points file for the same area, for something like railway stations. One thing you may want to do is add a new column to your railway stations attribute table that contains the elevation for each station. To do this you’d need to get the value for the underlying raster data into your vector layer. In QGIS you can do this really quickly using the ‘Sample raster values’ tool - check out the video to see how.
