Welcome to Issues and Insiders.
Today we REVISIT the race to space among nations worldwide amid news of a rare blue supermoon later this evening.
For more I have Professor Paul Yun at El Camino College joining me from the U.S.
Professor Yun it's been a while and great to speak with you again.
I also have Kang Sung-ju at the Gwacheon National Science Museum live on the line.
Doctor Kang it's good to have you with us.
1-1) Professor Yun, for the sake of laypeople including me, let's begin with a simple definition of the phrase "a super blue moon".
1-2) Professor Yun, I also understand that a blue moon is in fact not blue.
How did it get its name?
2-1) Meanwhile, Doctor Kang, for those of us here in Korea then, when and how would be the best way of indulging in the sight of this blue supermoon?
2-2) Doctor Kang, when would be the next time for us to be able to witness "a super blue moon" if we miss this upcoming opportunity?
3) Moving on, Professor Yun, India last week made history by becoming the first nation to land near Moon's south pole.
That being said, do tell us more about the significance of this stride into space.
4-1) Doctor Kang, foreign media claim India was able to land on the moon "without breaking the bank."
What more can you tell us about India's cost-effective mission?
4-2) Doctor Kang, India has also shared plans to send people to the moon in the near future.
What would be the broader implications of this ambitious goal if successful?
5) Professor Yun, just days before India's remarkable moon mission, Russia marked failure in a similar mission despite being the first nation to ever succeed a lunar landing in 1959.
How do you explain Russia's latest lunar failure?
6) And Doctor Kang, what are your thoughts regarding Russia's recent lunar crash?
I mean, what does this tell you about the state of Russia's space program?
7) Professor Yun, how do you explain the latest race to the moon's south pole among India, Russia, China and the U.S.?
8) Doctor Kang, simply speaking, what are the broader gains of greater advances in space exploration for any country?
9) Professor Yun, neighboring Japan has also been seeking to advance its lunar mission.
What more can you tell us?
10) Doctor Kang, space missions are challenging, to say the least, but specifically speaking, what makes a lunar landing difficult?
11) Professor Yun, as mentioned earlier, India is the first country to have landed on the moon's south pole.
Can it claim sovereignty?
12) And Doctor Kang, what are the laws that govern space exploration at present?
13) Meanwhile, Doctor Kang, where does Korea stand with regard to the moon mission?
14) Professor Yun, do you suppose joint ventures into space among nations may serve to reduce the possibility of conflict over rights and so forth?
All right.
