The catalpa tree (Catalpa speciosa or Catalpa bignonioides) is a fast-growing deciduous tree known for its dramatic features. It has large, heart-shaped leaves that can grow up to 12 inches long, creating a lush canopy. In late spring to early summer, it produces clusters of showy, trumpet-shaped flowers, usually white with purple and yellow markings, giving the tree a striking appearance. These flowers are followed by long, slender seed pods, often called "cigar pods," which can reach lengths of up to 20 inches. Catalpa trees thrive in a variety of soil conditions, making them versatile and hardy, and they can grow up to 50-70 feet tall. With their bold foliage and ornamental flowers, they are a favorite for shade and visual interest in parks and yards.
