The river Feshie originates in the cairngorm plateau and flows through a valley where it has been relatively little impacted by man. Rivers elsewhere have been channelised, deepened, levees created and embankments reprofiled, marginal vegetation damaged by farming or development, and nutrient levels increased via sewage or agriculture etc. The Feshie is fairly pristine in that it still follows its natural braided course, with surrounding land being largely forest and moorland. The water is well oxygenated and clean. Seeing a river in this condition in the UK is a rare sight.
