Sugar has been the life of Mauritius, could be its death. 90% of the Islands exports sugar or sugar by-products, and most of that is paid for by Britain under the Commonwealth sugar agreement which is now threatened by negotiations thousands of miles away between Britain and Commonwealth countries.
