Is Turkey preparing for a full-scale military offensive against the Kurdish-controlled areas in Syria? With Assad’s regime collapsing and reports of a major Turkish military buildup along the border, tensions are at a boiling point. Ankara sees the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as a threat, accusing them of ties to the PKK. Turkish forces, bolstered by air power and Syrian proxies, appear ready to strike, while the Kurdish SDF—stretched thin despite their battle experience—faces overwhelming odds.

Will the Kurds receive external help? The U.S., historically supportive yet wary of antagonising NATO ally Turkey, may limit its response to diplomatic pressure and sanctions. Meanwhile, Israel and Iraqi Kurds are unlikely to offer significant military aid. With the stage set for another brutal conflict, Ankara may view this as the perfect moment to act, risking thousands of casualties and further destabilisation of northern Syria.
