My Mother's favorite song (other than "Everything passes," which we wrote and recorded later, in the early '80s. This is around late '76/early 1977, and is on our album "Ladies on the Stage"). But, you know, if Mom loves it ... it was played locally, in Sacramento and she absolutely delighted in that.
Full-on production for sure, Jean covering bass and vocals; me on acoustic guitar/vocals and, believe it or not, harmonica! (plus, a little chordal re-enforcement on an acoustic 12-string). Co-producer Tom Sellers on keys, and Ed Greene on drums/percussion. A charted session with top players, so it was done pretty fast, probably under an hour (we had other songs to record, too). Oh, and Larry Carlton on electric guitar ~ for him playing those stunning parts was so easy! Just a laid-back guy, really nice, who happened to be just about the best guitar player in the world. (I'd met him before, through Tom).
We did this session in LA, after starting the basics in NY. But back we went, completing the album there, with sweetening like slammin' strings and a real harp!
Please enjoy. We're proud of this one, 2022 ... also, still one of my faves.
