Lebanon's Public Prosecution Office decided on Tuesday to extradite detained Egyptian poet and activist Abdelrahman Yusuf Qaradawi to the United Arab Emirates.
Although Qaradawi is not an Emirati citizen, his extradition was requested after he released a video from Syria criticising the Egyptian, Emirati and Saudi Arabian governments.
Dozens of protestors gathered across Europe, from London to the Hague, to protest Qaradawi's extradition. Meanwhile, videos have circulated online alleging there were political pressures pushing for the activist's deportation, which is presumed to have taken place on the afternoon of Wednesday 8 January.
