Veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 79 years old.
Two years ago, Kapoor was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2014. It was one of his rare public appearances but a memorable one as it saw him united with his former leading ladies such as Nanda, Neetu Kapoor, Rekha, Shabana Azmi and Waheeda Rehman, and his close friend Amitabh Bachchan.
Kapoor is best known for his performances in films such as Sharmilee, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Jab Jab Phool Khile and Deewaar. He also contributed a lot to arthouse cinema with movies such as New Delhi Times, Utsav, Junoon and 36 Chowringhee Lane. His collaborations with Merchant Ivory Productions led to some brilliant films such as Shakespeare Wallah, The Householder, and Heat And Dust.
He was also pretty active in theatre, looking after Prithvi Theatre.
