1. Wear sunscreen — No joke, it gets sunny. Definitely apply to face and body beforehand!

2. Go early — If I could do it all again, I’d take the Ado bus and get there by 7:30am. Instead, I took a tour that dropped us at Chichen at 12pm — at full sun. Whew, it gets hot. If you get there earlier, you’ll avoid the heat AND the crowds.

3. Don’t buy the bug spray — Our tour included a stop at a cenote. The guides tried selling us bug spray, but really, save your money. You won’t need it for the hour you’re there — it’s just not enough time to get bitten that much.

4. Vallolidad — One thing I was super grateful for was our stop at Vallolidad. We arrived right at the twilight hour and saw dancing in the plaza. It felt as pretty close to authentic as could be, even if only for 30 minutes.
