The history in Bloomingdale is rich indeed, it spans hundreds of years and even dates back to the late 1700's when the Pompton Line of the Revolutionary Army was stationed on Federal Hill. They made the fateful decision to mutiny and were struck down severely on the direct orders of General George Washington who sent General Howe to squash the disturbance. In the 1930's Federal Hill was "occupied" by a German group and operated Camp Bergwald. The camp was known as a "Bund" camp and there were many throughout NJ and beyond. This one was raided by the FBI by the end of the decade.
