The 5th UM Symposium on Global Citizenship Education on 23 May 2024 revolved around the theme of transformative engagement, one of the pillars of the UM GCEd initiative and a key competence of UM graduates who will become tomorrow's leaders and changemakers.
Keynote speakers, including Professor Martin Tomitsch, Head of the Transdisciplinary School at the University of Technology Sydney, and Professor Colin Wayne Leach, Professor of Psychology and Africana Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York, discussed life-centred design and the ethical dimensions of protest, respectively.
Afternoon workshops covered topics such as teaching peacebuilding, community engagement, transforming education through entrepreneurship, tackling global issues equitably, preparing for Generation Alpha, disinformation and digital literacy, and positive eco-psychology.
The event concluded with an inspiring Creative Goodbye session led by PhD candidate Rene Bräuer (Educational Research and Development, SBE).
