During the summers of 1999, the Indian Army defeated Pakistani army and terrorists backed by it in a war which was fought on the mountains of Kargil at an altitude more than 15,000 feet. The Kargil War 1999 was fought between May and July 1999. Four Param Vir Chakras were awarded during the Kargil War 1999.
