2. SOUNDBITE (English) Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, deputy to UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura:
"So the process, as we see it at this stage, is progressing. It probably reflects the situation on the ground: that there has been quite a large - to a large extent - reduction in violence. And that has been reflected in the attitude of the various delegations including yesterday with the High Negotiations Committee (HNC, Syrian opposition) and today with the (Syrian) government. So, by and large, we see that we have achieved important progress in just a few days and we look forward to continue our discussions with all participants in the coming days."

STORYLINE:
A Syrian government delegation is meeting with the UN special envoy for Syria for the second time since indirect peace talks resumed this week in Geneva.
The talks are known as proximity talks, in which the UN envoy meets separately with Syrian government representatives and envoys of the so-called moderate opposition.
Speaking in Geneva on Wednesday, Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, de Mistura's deputy, said there had been a marked reduction of violence in Syria, which was reflected in the attitudes of delegations from various sides of the Syrian conflict.
Wednesdays' meetings are expected to move onto more substantive matters, after procedural steps and an outlining of goals from the two sides were covered in the two previous days.
On Tuesday, de Mistura met with the Saudi- and Western-backed opposition group known as the High Negotiations Committee.
