The case involves a company hired by the Navy to send marketing text messages to young adults. The plaintiff, Gomez, didn't want the messages and sued alleging the company violated a law. The lower court initially sided with the company, but an appeals court reversed the decision. The Supreme Court heard arguments and ultimately ruled that the company could not claim immunity and that the case was not automatically moot just because the defendant offered to pay damages.
