This is way more than a simple USB charging outlet. Each outlet is smart, as well as the USB ports, with a robust app that could power an entire smart house. Geeni is compatible with all of the big-name assistants (Google, Alexa, Siri and Cortana), so voice-control is a breeze.
Here’s where this outlet shines—full voice and app control over each plug in and the pair of USB ports, as well as scheduling and timer features. The Geeni platform is entirely app-based, so no hub is required, and I was surprised to find the level of control allowed with something that is so well priced! Their entire smart home line is very, very affordable.
I labeled the bottom plug “Coffee pot,” and I have the option to set it up on a timer, or on a schedule. The top plug is labeled and controllable separately, and the two USB ports can share a schedule or timer.
I would really like to see the schedule function operate locally, without needing Wi-Fi. If there is a power outage or internet outage, I know that at my preset time my outlet will turn on again. This would be the perfect solution for people who have a second property they monitor such as a business or second home. When the internet goes down, instead of needing to be physically present on the property to power cycle my modem, I could set this outlet to power-cycle my modem. This would be a huge win for an already amazing product.
The app is serious! I am so impressed with the functionality and the local information it pulls in. This is a brilliant, and affordable, start to a smart home. Seasoned smart home users will appreciate the thought and effort that has clearly gone into the design of these products and the app.
