Illinois State Museum staff members were invited to participate in a smoking ceremony prior to a public ceremony to repatriate 42 culturally significant objects to Australia. An Australian delegation from the Aranda people of Central Australia and Bardi Jawi people of Cape Leveque came to Springfield as part of the Return of cultural Heritage Project led by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. The ceremony was held at the Illinois State Museum Research and Collections Center in Springfield, Illinois.
