Three top South African art historians talk about the many manifestations of Afrikaner nationalism - Prof Federico Freschi (Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin, New Zealand), Prof Brenda Schmahmann (University of Johannesburg) and Prof Lize van Robbroeck (University of Stellenbosch).
They edited "Troubling Images" published by Wits University Press in March 2002. Together with nine other authors, the book covers the creation of Afrikaner imagery during the last days of the British empire to the recent challenges to monuments on "divided campuses" in South Africa.
This video gives a good overview of the book and addresses issues relevant to today. Each speaker gives detail of the their own chapters. Some was recorded especially for this film, others from the live Culture Connect Zoom on 13 Aug 2020.
