Today, I will repair a Gameboy Advance SP. Growing up, the Gameboy Advanced SP was one of my favorite video game handhelds. Recently I had a chance to purchase a broken unit at a great price. Initially, I was told that not only did the unit have a cracked screen, but that there was also a power issue. After some test, it seems that the unit needed a new battery and display. Unfortunately, I also had to replace the case due to damage. I decided to go with a Pokémon themed case. I upgraded the display to an IPS model, and now the picture looks incredible! I do want to mention that with some GB cases you need to cut off some of the plastic as shown, or many third party LCD/IPS screens wont fit. Some cases do come precut , which makes the install process a little easier. I also soldered a wire from the display ribbon cable to the motherboard (test point Q12B) for dim controls. Overall I was very happy with the end result. Links to some of the parts I used are below.
