In this tutorial we see how to calculate IDMT Relays Plug Settings and Time Multiplier Settings (TMS). TMS and Plug Settings are very important parameters of an IDMT relay as its calibrate its timing and allow the Relays to operate under normal load and overload conditions to work in a differential protection together with other upstream relays on the network.
This allow the over current relay to react appropriately when there's a short circuit current at the primary of the current transformer. The TMS settings will prevent 2 relays from tripping at the same time, and the Plug Settings will ensure that the relays operate under normal conditions or short time overload without tripping.
Learn how to calculate the Time Multiplier Setting (TMS) for IDMT relays in this comprehensive tutorial. Ideal for electrical engineers and students, this video covers the fundamental concepts, settings, and calculations involved in determining the TMS for various relay applications. Enhance your understanding of power system protection and relay coordination with this essential guide.
Plug settings are important because they set up the sensitivity of the IDMT Relays, this basically tells your relay how sensitive it should be when reacting to a fault on the network.
