The Frankfurt kitchen was the forerunner of modern fitted kitchens. It was designed in 1926 by pioneering Austrian architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky as part of the social housing project for the Post WW1 New Frankfurt. "Grete" Lihotzky helped build Red Vienna, was imprisoned by the Nazis i during WW2, was a committed member of the Austrian communist party and was eventually recognised for her pioneering work. She died just short of age 103 in Jan 2000
