Eliesta Handitya and Gatari Surya Kusuma from activist collective Struggles for Sovereignty based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia speak about The Soils Project and this particular iteration of an ongoing research-based experimental project developed in collaboration with TarraWarra Museum of Art and leading contemporary arts museum the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The Soils Project arises from specific and situated practices that each of the participants and artists brings to their understanding of soil, as both metaphor and matter.
