Two great friends of the late Victoria, Lady de Rothschild, designer Tomasz Starzewski and writer Virginia Fraser, recreate one of Victoria's sublime table settings from her collection of tableware coming to auction at Dreweatts in March 2022.
Featuring a stunning selection of blue and white Chinese crocus vases, 18th century Chantilly Sprig porcelain, and tableware ahead of its time in design, this table setting was used to set the stage for Victoria's wonderfully memorable Sunday lunches with close family and friends at the de Rothschild's former residence Ascott House in Buckinghamshire, England.
Together Tomasz and Virginia share touching anecdotes from cherished moments spent in the company of Victoria - whether informally or as guests at her legendary dinners and parties - and ponder on how she would orchestrate the perfect table setting and ‘set the stage’ for a truly unforgettable dining experience, time and time again.
Providing rare observations and insights into Victoria's inimitable style, and her instinctive eye for what merited good design, Virginia and Tomasz attempt to distill the essence of Victoria's unique and innate entertaining prowess, and how with her mindset we might all become masterful designers and impresarios of our own legendary dining experiences.
