6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Saida al-Mahya, Yemeni mother:
"We are besieged in the city of Taiz. We do not have a way out to anywhere. Where do we go? We neither have water nor electricity. We can do without electricity, but the most important thing for us is that we do not lose the lifeline that we had (referring to aid from WFP), so that our oxygen supply is not cut off. The support that we get from organizations that gave us oil and other things is like the tube through which we breathe, and we do not want it to be cut off. We appeal that the organizations do not cut off the food aid that we get."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Saida al-Mahya, Yemeni mother:
"Before the war, we were living in safety. We never had a shortage of rials (the Yemeni currency). We were comfortable, we had a bus that my husband drove, and money was coming in. As soon the war began, my husband was shot by a sniper and suffered for 8 months because of it. My son is sick, he has a blood condition. I continue to help him, I come and go with him to the hospital continuously. We were living well when we received the food aid. Whatever money we had, we would use it to try to cover the treatment costs."

11. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ibrahim al-Mosalamy, head of Taiz branch of Tamdeen Youth Foundation:
"From a humanitarian perspective, reducing humanitarian aid in Yemen generally and in Taiz province specifically will constitute an obstacle, a challenge and a real gap for the poor and those who do not have a source of income, whether it is a daily or a monthly income. So the crises will worsen, and the humanitarian situation will further deteriorate. The famine will be worse, and there will be more crime as well as many other issues."

STORYLINE:
Yemenis like Saida al-Mahya who relies heavily on aid cannot entertain the thought that her family could lose access to World Food Programme assistance, following recent announcements.
In August, WFP said in a statement that its food aid in conflict-stricken Yemen is threatened by a "critical funding shortage."
This aid has been a lifeline for al-Mahya who likens losing the assistance to having her family's oxygen supply cut off.
Her husband, Hussein Saeed used to work as a bus driver, but not since he was hit in the right knee by a sniper bullet.
The eldest of the four children in the family is 14 and another child has a blood condition that requires frequent visits to the hospital.
