Cases which offer serious splash, sand and drop protection are often quite unpleasant to use, but the Griffin Survivor Summit is an exception to the rule. Boasting IP-55 protection against dust, sand and water, as well as an impressive 3 meters of drop protection, this is a very tough case, and surprisingly slim. It has a built-in plastic screen protector and the expected covered port openings and mute switch in order to protect against incursions of water and dust, but unlike with many similar cases, these protective features do not detract significantly from your phone use experience. In addition, this case is very easy to take on and off…a feature which is quite unusual in protective cases. Rather than having to struggle with tricky clasps and clips, you simply place the phone in the bottom half of the case and slide the screen protector on. Done and done! Being plastic and non-adhesive, the screen protector on the Summit is not going to give you the same feeling as using a naked iPhone screen or a glass screen protector, but it performs quite well with all typing and swiping tasks and protects your phone screen without driving you crazy. The covered buttons are perfectly comfortable to use, and the mute switch slider is clever and works well. I used this case for a week at the beach and my phone was easily usable while being well protected from the perils of sand and splashes. Of course, IP-55 does not mean that this is a waterproof case. It is splash proof and rain proof…but for a truly waterproof case, you will want to look for IP-68 protection.

* Slide on screen protector is brilliant! Wonderfully easy to put on and take off: excellent for people who like to put their phone into a more protective case for outdoor activities.

* Audio quality is fine. It may have a slightly lower volume, but there is no degradation in audio quality.
* Nice quality belt clip doubles as a media stand.
* Both slimmer and tougher than the Survivor All-Terrain, as well as more attractive.
Cons:
* Being plastic, the screen protector gets smeary quickly.
* A plastic, non-adhesive screen protector like this will not feel like glass. It is, however, entirely usable. Texting, swiping and 3D Touch all work fine.
Conclusion: Overall, I found the Survivor Summit to be a great case. It does a fantastic job of protecting your iPhone while not making you want to rip it off in frustration. With an MSRP of $59.99, the Summit comes in four colors and is available from Griffin, Amazon and various retailers:
