Part of a three-story brick building housing a church collapsed about 10:45 a.m. Thursday near Independence Avenue and Benton Boulevard in Kansas City. All 44 children and 19 staff members inside at the time escaped injury, said Herminio Leal, pastor of Rio de Agua Viva, which means Rivers of Living Water. The children were attending the second day of a three-day Christian bible school. Some were playing with balloons when they felt the floor start to shake, one mother said.
