The task manager windows 8 looks different and a little confusing to some people.
When you launch the windows 8 task manager, it could start in one of two modes. Either the compact mode or the detailed mode.

The compact mode of the task bar only shows a list of the programs running in the PC
You can click on 'more details' at the bottom to have the detailed view of the task bar in windows 8

In the detailed mode, there are four columns on the right that shoe you how much of your CPU, Memeory, Disk space and network bandwidth is being used by each program.

The performance tab in the task bar shows how the four resources are being used over time.
The App history tab shows cummulative activity from your apps
