(15 Jan 2019) German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will be among the world leaders in attendance at this year's Davos summit, World Economic Forum (WEF) executives said on Tuesday.
Forum executives offered a preview of the 22-26 January gathering of political, business, cultural, academic and other elites, with founder Klaus Schwab saying a "re-moralisation" of globalisation is needed.
He said globalisation produced many "winners" over the last generation or so. "But now we have to look after the losers, after those who have been left behind".
WEF President Borge Brende said 37 heads of states and government from Europe and Eurasia will attend, joining over 3,000 people on hand.
US President Donald Trump had planned to attend but withdrew amid the government shutdown in Washington.
Other top US officials are expected.
