This interview was given by Robert Virding at Lambda World 2024 , celebrated the Palacio de Congresos in Cádiz, Spain.
Robert Virding is a Co-inventor of one of the programming languages which has had a huge impact in the software world - Erlang! He was one of the original members of the Ericsson Computer Science Lab at Ericsson, helping to co-invent Erlang with Joe Armstrong and Mike Williams. While at the lab he also did a lot of work on the implementation of logic and functional languages. He left Ericsson to become an entrepreneur with the first Erlang startup BlueTail, acquired by Nortel Networks. Robert worked a number of years at the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) Modeling and Simulations Group before joining Erlang Solutions as Principal Language Expert. He likes porting other languages to the Erlang Ecosystem, having created LFE (Lisp Flavoured Erlang), LuErl (Lua) and ErlLog. He co-authored the first book on Erlang: Concurrent Programming in Erlang and is regularly invited to present at conferences worldwide.
